February Anniversaries

Fellowship

 by Jean Butler

WELCA:

Pam and Charlene we appreciate your hosting of the January meeting. The tasting of new appetizers which perhaps tie to a cultural heritage was enjoyable.  The meal was delicious and followed by the wonderful desserts which provided a “sweet ending,” for the meeting.

We have established dates for two activities                                         for the Spring/Summer seasons. On April                                         19, 2012 we will have the Spring Fashion                                         Show tickets are currently in the process of                                          development. Contact Nancy Green or                                           Loraine Eliason if you desire to reserve                                           some tickets.

Annual Rummage/Garage Sale dates;

opening day June 6, 2012 and ending

on June 9, 2012. With the time for spring

cleaning fast approaching please remember

to save those items you are not using for the

sale.

Future Meetings:

Judy Bergman, Harolyn Reed and Jean Butler will host the February meeting, to be held at the church. The date is February 16, 2012 at 6:30 pm.  Please watch for the sign- up sheet on the information board.

We are in need of a hostess for the months of: March, May, July, September and November. Meetings are not held in April or June because of the events held in those months. Please call  Jean Butler if you are willing to host for one of the months identified above.

Soup Supper:

It is time to pull out the soup recipes as we will host one of the soup suppers during the Lenten Season.  Sign -up sheets for types of soup and various helping opportunities will appear on the information board.

Coffee Hour:

My sincere appreciation for all of those who assisted with the coffee hour held for the celebration of Pastor’s Ordination. Without the spirit of great team members it is not possible to do all of the activities planned of the church.

Thank you, Pat and Dick Longanbach for hosting the coffee hour in celebration of your 58th wedding anniversary.

Please consider hosting one of the coffee hours, remember to make it simple. We will continue to provide paper products for your use and respond to any questions you may have.

Men’s Group:

The men’s Group continues to meet the

first Tuesday of each month and extends

an invitation to all men of the church to join the fun and lively conversation.

Welcoming our Visitors…

Our Evangelism Committee

and Pastor Bill have been

working on new ways to

welcome and follow-up with

new visitors.  We have

prepared “Welcome Bags”

with a copy of our newly

revised Holy Spirit brochure,

the current newsletter and a “mini-cookbook” with favorite Holy Spirit recipes.  We’ve also re-designed the pages in the Visitor Book (located near the sanctuary entrance) to gather additional information for follow-up.  It’s important that we find out who our visitors are so we can re-connect with them after the Sunday worship service.

If you are a greeter, please ask visitors to sign the Visitor Book (one person could even walk over to the Book with the visitors!) and give them a Visitor Bag as our gift to them.  Bags are available right next to the Visitor Book.  If you need more bags, ask Barb Kunkel or Nancy Fish.

During the Passing of the Peace and at the end of the service, it is helpful if members seated near visitors greet and welcome them warmly.  We’ve been doing a good job with this!  Please let Pastor Bill know who the visitors are so he can personalize the follow-up note he sends to each visitor.

Thank you, again, to everyone for showing our visitors a warm welcome to Holy Spirit!

The Souper Bowl of Caring utilizes Super Bowl weekend in America to mobilize young people to fight hunger and poverty in their local communities. Its vision is to transform Super Bowl weekend (the weekend of the first Sunday in February) into America's largest youth-led weekend of giving and serving. Young people collect monetary and food donations during the week leading up to Super Bowl Sunday. 100% of the money and food is then given directly to local charities of the group's choice.[1]

Started at Spring Valley Presbyterian Church in Columbia, South Carolina, the Souper Bowl of Caring has branched out to include schools, businesses and congregations of all faiths. Together, they have raised more than $50 million in monetary and food donations. In 2008 alone, more than 14,000 groups collected over $10 million
